This week we had Jesse Miller of Mediated Reality give us advise and information about the world of social media.
Some key points to take forward:
Digital consent
- Even if you think something is okay to share, don’t share it unless you have consent.
- It is important to be aware if there is anyone in the background of a video or picture. You also need to ask them for permission to be recorded.
- Respect that many people do not want their photos shared, or be in the back of a FaceTime call ect.
Social Media Use by Educators
- Teachers are not allowed to share student information or images on personal social media accounts (Miller, 2021)
- Ensure you have a good online presence as other teachers, parents and students will probably look you up (Miller, 2021).
- Search your name on google
- Search your social media account username on google
- Search your email on google
- Remove any unfavourable content!
This book was recommended by Jesse Miller. As someone who does not play video games, I think this could be an interesting read. You can read more about it here.
