This week we had Trevor MacKenzie give us a talk on the types of student inquiry and 10 characteristic’s of the inquiry classroom.

Types of Student Inquiry

The following picture does a great job of providing a visual and a description of the different types of student inquiry. Trevor said that it is important that teachers build up to free inquiry, this means not bringing the students to the deep end when they are not ready.

10 Characteristics of the Inquiry Classroom

The first characteristic which is to nurture student passions and talents is something I am going to strive to do.  This looks like getting to know each student and giving them time to investigate their personal passions and interests. This also involves exploring ways to tie these interests into the curriculum (Mackenzie, 2018).
