I think that educational videos can be very enriching for students. There are times when playing an educational video can be more effective than trying to explain or demonstrate a concept yourself. They also can empower students by being used as an additional resource. For example, emailing home a link to a Khan academy video that explains how to do the math that was done that week would be beneficial to some students.
